Telling people about inside your head.

I went to wait for my friends Katie and Emily at the Red Lobster. They took me out for my birthday dinner which was really great and I had snow crab legs- delicious! While I was waiting for them I just started looking at the lobster tank really closely and taking photos and writing about the lobsters.

This lady pokes in from behind me.

LADY: What are you doing there?
ME: Oh just watching the lobsters.
LADY: Well why do you have your pen and paper out? What's with the notebook? Are you drawing them?
ME: No, I'm just writing about them.
LADY: What are you writing about?
ME: Well (thinks of how akward this is going to sound to this lady) What's your name?
LADY: Michelle.
ME: Hi Michelle, I'm Kristen.
MICHELLE: What are you writing about?
KRISTEN: Oh, just how the lobsters are all in a clump and look like war victims and they send one out at a time to do a 'turn' kind like buffons.
MICHELLE: Strange! Neat! Okay!

It is strange. I should have just told her I was drawing a claw or something. Oh lobsters. Lobby.

Happy Birthday!

Birthday Fun!

Oh guys. Kristen figures it out... I always find birthdays are such a weird time. When I was younger I thought by the time I was twenty four I'd be one of the lawyers on Street Legal. Seeing that I am not Cynthia Dale in a powersuit running around King and Bay just makes me think.

It's not like I'm in a bad place, but I just hope I would have done more. I'm just highly goal oriented and I'm good at accomplishing tasks and just to be twenty four and see where my life is on paper (at this very moment) is a little disheartening.

I had a party last night and it was great. There was probably like 70 people there? 50 to 70 people and it was just awesome. The one thing I am doing right in life is surrounding myself with amazing friends and family. My family sent me this beautiful card that said 'Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting' which made me smile and my grandma sent another cute card.

It overwhelmed me to see that so many people took an effort to come to my party. How did I get so lucky?

Oh Kristen. Don't let anybody tell you you didn't 'get lucky' last night.. Cause you did! You are lucky to have amazing friends!

Figuring it out!

Globalization sucks!!

INT- MALL IN BERGAMO, ITALY – DAY

KRISTEN walks into the mall with her friend KATIE who has been traveling with her for the past week. Katie is on her way back to Canada. Both of their flights are delayed (in Italian, ‘Ritardo’) so they’ve gone to the mall to shop.

KATIE: Oh H&M!
KRISTEN: Let’s look!

The girls walk in to the store.

KRISTEN: Oh look Katie! Those are my sandals for the hostel showers.
KATIE: Oh yeah? Did you get them over here?
KRISTEN: No, I got them in Toronto.
KATIE: Oh… cool!

Katie suddenly sees a nice ring and tries it on.

KATIE: I like this ring!
KRISTEN: You should get it!
KATIE: Ah, I’ll get it when I’m back in Canada…
KRISTEN: Isn’t globalization weird?
KATIE: Yeah.

The girls ponder on how ridiculous it is that you can get the exact same things at a store in Bergamo, Italy as you can in Toronto. It was the case for many of the things in the mall.
